Why do we read every ingredient on our own food… but rarely question what's inside our dog's treats?

That question stayed with me for a long time.

And the reason was sitting right in front of me.

His name is Echo.

Echo isn't the first dog I've loved.

Growing up, our family always had dogs. They were loved, cared for, and treated like family long before I understood what responsible pet parenting really meant.

But Echo changed something.

When he came into my life, I started paying closer attention to the little things.

• What he ate.
• What went into his treats.
• Whether those treats were actually good for him.

Like most pet parents, I assumed that if a product was on the shelf, it was probably fine.

Then I started reading labels.

And honestly?

I didn't love what I found.

• Long ingredient lists.
• Ingredients I couldn't identify.
• Products marketed as "healthy" but filled with things that didn't seem to add any real nutritional value.

The more I looked, the more I wondered:

Why should pet food be held to a lower standard than human food?

I wasn't looking to build a pet brand.

I was simply looking for treats I could feel confident giving to my own dog.

Treats made with real ingredients.

Treats with a purpose.

But the options were surprisingly limited.

So I decided to create them myself.

That's how GenPets was born.

Not from a business plan.

Not from a trend.

But from one pet parent trying to do better for her dog.
